It doesn’t matter how many times you see it, watching someone who has been colorblind their whole life see colors for the first time is incredible. Thanks to new technology and advanced new glasses, people who have seen the world only in black and white are being introduced to their own Oz for the first time.
Such was the case for 66-year-old bodybuilder William Reed. His family wanted to surprised him with an expensive pair of Enchroma glasses. As he opened his birthday gift on video, Reed was surprised to find the gift — and eagerly put on the glasses.
It wasn’t long before he settled in and began looking around. It was clearly an emotional experience, as Reed saw the green grass, the blue sky, and even his own wife’s image clearly for the first time. If you want to know what will make a grown man cry, you’ve found it. To live over six decades without experience the beauty of color — and then be introduced to it — would send your system into a bit of shock.
It’s incredible to see what scientists are coming up with these days. Hopefully, people won’t have to wait until they are in their 60s to see color for much longer.
