Christian singer Luke Smallbone posted a terrifying note to his fans over the weekend, letting them know that his two-month-old son, Leo, had stopped breathing and was in need of prayer.

“Yesterday I was mowing the lawn when I heard my wife frantically yelling for me to call 911. I wasn’t immediately sure why until I saw her holding our little boy, Leo, who was very gray and looking lifeless,” Smallbone wrote in an Instagram post. “She felt God impress on her to check on him while he was napping and after many prayers and some CPR, our little boy started to breathe again.”
The singer, who performs alongside his brother, Joel, in the band For King and Country, went on to explain that he was at the hospital while writing the note and that doctors were running tests to try and find out why the baby stopped breathing.
“We understand now more than ever that these kids aren’t ours, but God entrusts them to us for a time,” Smallbone continued. “We will hold him that much tighter and we’re that much more thankful that he spared Leo’s life.”
He said Leo was doing well after the incident, but asked for prayer.

In a follow-up message posted to Instagram on Tuesday, the singer described the past few days as a “whirlwind” and said that peoples’ prayers for his son had been answered, as the boy is expected to make a full recovery.
He did reveal that Leo will need a major skull surgery that is unrelated to the recent medical emergency.
In the end, Smallbone said that he’s both happy over the positive conclusion to the incident — and emotionally drained.
“I’m not sure I’ll be able to fully comprehend all that’s taken place but boy have I felt the grace of Jesus,” he wrote. “I’m emotionally and physically exhausted but I’m full of joy. Much love to you all.”
