The earthquake in Mexico continues to devastate local communities. Heartbreakingly, the bodies of 21 children and 4 adults were found amid the rubble of a three-story school that was hit.
The Enrique Rebsamen primary and secondary school was affected by the 7.1 magnitude earthquake this week, one of the absolute worst places one could imagine being so affected.
Reports say volunteers have been streaming into help, crawling under dangerous crevices and attempting to get beneath the rubble to find any possible survivors but the results have been discouraging. Body after body has been pulled out far too late — and volunteers are even being turned away because there are too many.
Amongst the devastating scene are families and parents waiting in hope to see if their children somehow miraculously survived. Such hope is dwindling by the minute.
“We can hear small noises,” one rescue worker said. “We don’t know if they’re coming from above or below – from the walls above (crumbling), or from someone below calling for help.”
There have been plenty of miraculous stories of one person being found alive after being trapped for days, which is why workers occasionally ask for silence in order to listen for possible voices. While it’s unlikely anyone could have made it, they won’t give up hope until there truly is none left.
The images coming out of Mexico are truly horrific. Operation Blessing is on the ground in Mexico, having been actively helping citizens recover from the last earthquake several weeks prior.
