Jesus Campos, the security guard who was shot by Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock, broke his silence on Wednesday in an interview with comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.
In a preview clip of the exchange, which is slated to air in full later in the day during “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Campos said that he is still healing “mentally and physically” and that he is “doing better each day.”
He also revealed that Paddock shot him through the hotel room door, recounting the moments leading up to the assailant’s deadly attack on a country music festival earlier this month.
“As I was walking down, I heard rapid fire, and at first I took cover, I felt a burning sensation,” he said. “I went to go lift my pant leg up and I saw the blood.”

DeGeneres was specific to note that Campos did not receive any money for his appearance.
“We of course wanted to give you money, and you both were very, very specific,” she said. “You said you don’t want money, you don’t want money at all, so you’re not getting any money.”
