Former “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson responded to Sunday’s mass shooting at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, by appealing to the gospel and reminding people that the Christians murdered there had hope in Christ.
“Thank God that these brothers and sisters of ours who were in that little church, they were children of the resurrection,” Robertson said in a Facebook Live video. “Don’t worry about the one who can kill the body, you don’t worry about him; you worry about the one — the God of heaven — who can destroy both body and soul in hell.”
He went on to say that the victims “are alive with God” and invoked the Bible in proclaiming that one day Jesus will return and bring those with him who have “fallen asleep,” stating that there is hope for those who embrace the Christian faith.
“If there’s no resurrection, we have no hope,” he said. “Satan is the problem. Jesus has destroyed him on our behalf … no one can kill us, not body and soul. They may get our bodies, but we live on. We get our bodies back.”
Robertson then turned his attention to 1 John 3, which proclaims that “sin is lawlessness” and that the world witnessed this lawlessness during the Las Vegas attack, the recent terror attack in New York City and Sunday’s church shooting.
“Love triumphs over lawlessness,” Robertson proclaimed.
