When former model Lauren Scruggs Kennedy was severely injured in 2011 after walking into a plane’s propeller, she lost the one thing that enabled her career: her near-perfect looks.

Kennedy’s left eye, shoulder and left hand were sliced by the spinning propeller, which she walked into after exiting the plane in the dark in Dallas. Her beauty had been her meal ticket, and Kennedy struggled with the way she looked after the accident.
“After my accident I realized, ‘I don’t feel beautiful right now, and it actually doesn’t matter…that’s not what should define me.” Kennedy said, according to Light Workers.
Kennedy soon turned to her Christian faith for healing. A poignant revelation followed, and she finally realized the truth about what she’d been taught throughout her childhood: that beauty really is what’s on the inside. She now understood, fully, what true beauty looked like – including how you are treating and serving other people. She then applied this knowledge to her life, and now Kennedy directs her energy and efforts to people in need.
The former model now lives her life in terms of “how you’re serving people, how you’re using your story to encourage others,” she said.
Kennedy, who sports a prosthetic arm, said that while it’s easy for women to be concerned about their looks, she encouraged them to search inward to discover the things that are most important to them.
“We constantly have things pouring into us that say ‘Be more beautiful’… it’s so easy to solely focus on outward,” she said.
