Duck Dynasty star Sadie Robertson has become something of a voice of hope for young evangelical Christians. Alongside running her fashion and lifestyle brand “Live Original,” Sadie spends much of her time preaching at various conferences and encouraging her millions of social media followers in their faith. There is no doubt that Sadie has become a huge inspiration to vast crowds of young people as she articulates biblical life lessons and speaks candidly out of her own experience.
Robertson recently shared a short video (below) with her reflections on Psalm 46, which begins:
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling.
The Psalm is a wonderful reminder that even when the storms of life come, even when the very earth below us gives way, God is our mighty fortress and our shelter in times of need.
“You change from an ‘even if’ mentality to an ‘even when’ mentality. That’s what the Bible talks about,” Sadie declares. “I was reading Psalm 46. It’s like my anthem. My roommates have to hear it every day. It talks about that ‘even when’ thing. We don’t like to say that. We like to say ‘God, make a way for my way to happen.'”
“No that’s not how it works, homie,” Sadie reminds us. “We have to make room for His way to happen. Sometimes that’s stuff we don’t want to see, we don’t want to go through, we don’t want to walk through.”
But Sadie encourages us that we have an ‘even when’ with almighty God on our side.
“Even when the storms come, even when the mountains crumble, we will be still and know that you are God. Not ‘even if.’ We don’t get mad and God and blame Him for being unfaithful. Are you kidding me? It’s not His unfaithfulness, it is our lack of faith.”
