In a touching moment on the TV show “The View,” former Vice President Joe Biden comforted Senator John McCain’s daughter Meghan after she revealed that her Dad is battling the same cancer that claimed the life of Biden’s son, Beau.
“Your son Beau had the same cancer that my father was diagnosed with 6 months ago,” Meghan told Biden in the emotional episode.
Former Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden died on May 30, 2015 at the age of 46 after a two year battle with the disease.
In the powerful moment of solidarity, McCain became very emotional as she discussed her father’s cancer diagnosis, at which point Biden left his seat, walked over to Meghan and grabbed her by the hand.
“One of the things that gave Beau courage, my word, was John, your dad…. your dad became friends with Beau. And Beau talked about your Dad’s courage. Not about his illness, but about his courage.”
“You may remember when you were a little kid, your dad took care of my Beau,” added the former VP.
Biden went on to talk about the incredible progress that is being made in various cancer treatments.
“If any of you have anybody who is diagnosed with glioblastoma, which is pretty much the worst you can get, there are breakthroughs that are occurring now.”
Then, he added a personal message about John McCain:
“There is hope. And if anybody can make it, your dad–her dad is one of my best friends. Her dad goes after me hammer and tongs. We were like two brothers who somehow were raised by different fathers or something because of our points of view. But I know, and I mean this sincerely, her dad got mad at me, he told me I should get the hell off the ticket.
And you remember what I said? And I mean this sincerely, I know that if I picked up the phone tonight and called John McCain and said ‘John, I’m at Second and Vine in Oshkosh and I need your help. Come.’ He would and I would for him too.”
Thank you @JoeBiden & the entire Biden family for serving as an example & source of strength for my own family. https://t.co/qmmw5rjdUj
