Pastor Mark Burns of Harvest Praise and Worship Center in Easley, South Carolina has claimed that he rescued President Trump from a poisonous spider whilst meeting with him in the Oval Office.
Burns detailed the incident an 11-minute video on Twitter Wednesday, saying it occurred when he and a group of evangelical leaders presented Trump with the “Friends of Zion” Award for his decision last week to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Pastor Burns explained how they were presenting Trump with the award when he noticed a large white spider crawling up the President’s back.
“It was this massive, huge white spider. And it was darting toward the back of his neck,” Burns recalled.
Burns looked around and thought, “can anyone else see this?”
He said that his immediate reaction was to “kill the spider, protect Donald Trump.”
He smacked the President on the back, killing the spider instantly. Burns explained how this was not easy for him, as he has an irrational fear of spiders himself.
“I cannot stand spiders, I have always had a fear of spiders,” he said. But Burns thought he should make an exception for the President of the United States. “It was the president of the United States of America, and I saw it running literally toward his neck!” he added.
The spider was reported to be a yellow sac, which is venomous, and “has mild and local cytotoxic and neurotoxic effects.”
Burns said that Trump is a “man’s man” and that he was unbothered by Burn’s smacking him on the back, despite the rest of those in the room being startled by the action. The pastor said he immediately turned to the secret service agents present and said: “Please, Secret Service, don’t shoot me, there was a huge Spider running towards his head!”
“I was not going to let this spider bite the president of the United States,” he added.
Trump then turned around and said, “Well, at least did you kill it” before adding “you saved me.”
“I saved you Mr. President,” Burns joked, adding that “deserved a medal” for his actions, much to the amusement of those in attendance.
Family Talk Radio’s James Dobson called it an “incredible meeting” in which many evangelical leaders prayed for Trump.
“There is a great deal of love between these evangelical leaders and the congregations that they represent, and I think the president in return,” he said.
