Smith presented his parents with a poem and a thank-you letter for the love they showed him throughout his life — and delivered the life-changing news that he was using his $5 million signing bonus to help pay off the family home, ABC News reported.
The baseball player later shared a video of his parents reading his Christmas letter as his mother broke out in tears of joy. His father, too, appeared to be taken over by emotion when he realized what his son was giving them.
“Thank you for everything you have done for me! This doesn’t make up for any of it,” Smith wrote on Twitter. “Love you both so much. Our home is finally all YOURS. Merry Christmas!”
