As Faithwire had reported, the country singer’s injuries were said to be non-life threatening, but now it seems as though they were much worse than previously known. In a message to her fan club over the weekend, Underwood explained that she received between 40 to 50 stitches on her face the night of the incident and may appear “different” as a result.
While the letter was only accessible to fan club members, several media outlets published excerpts of the note, which sheds new light on what happened the night she fell down the stairs at her home and details how she has been coping during her recovery.
“I haven’t been ready to talk about since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up,” Underwood wrote. “It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life.”
She went on to say that, in addition to breaking her wrist, she “somehow managed to injure” her face and the aftermath of the stitches has left her “not quite looking the same.”
Despite the seriousness of all that has unfolded, Underwood remains grateful for her health and optimistic about the year ahead.
“I honestly don’t know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful. I am grateful that it wasn’t much, much worse. And I am grateful for the people in my life that have been there every step of the way,” she said. “I am determined to make 2018 amazing… And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different.”
