We’ve all received some form of an email scam before, and chances are we’ve all received one from someone in Africa.
By now we know that sending $20,000 to a Nigerian prince in waiting won’t unlock $20,000,000 in royal cash currently trapped in an offshore bank account. We automatically delete the emails or hang up on the phone calls. When Dan, one of the hosts from the Youtube Channel Pleasant Green, received a message on Facebook from a guy in Liberia named Joel, he immediately knew the drill – but decided to go a different route with it. The resulting journey will leave you in a pool of happy tears:

Dan’s initial thought was that if he could waste enough of the scammer’s time, that’d be less time the guy had to scam other people. He decided to play along with the pitch for a while, having no clue he was about to embark on a journey that would change both of their lives forever.
Joel had mentioned in his scam pitch something about acquiring camera equipment, so Dan had a challenge for Joel. He asked him to go take some pictures – Joel, did and they weren’t that good. Dan decided to “invest” a small amount to see what Joel would do, and so he bought & sent him a $30 camera – what would Joel do with it? Sell it for a quick buck? Or try to better himself? The result is more than anyone could’ve ever expected or hoped for.
It’s absolutely incredible to see what just a small amount of money – and a putting a little bit of faith in someone – can do.
