The crowd at the National Prayer Breakfast erupted in applause on Thursday morning when President Donald Trump took time during his address to herald the spirit and perseverance of a little girl named Sophia Marie Campa-Peters.

Peters, 9, battles a rare medical condition that causes strokes and recently captivated the world with her for call for prayer before a serious surgery last month at Boston Children’s Hospital — a procedure to help improve blood flow in her brain.
“At one point, the doctors told Sophia that she would not be able to walk,” Trump said of the child’s plight.
The president explained that Sophia has continued to be positive, despite her difficult plight, adding that she recently told doctors who feared she wouldn’t walk again: “If you’re only going to talk about what I can’t do, then I don’t want to hear it. Just let me try to walk.”

As previously reported, Sophia went on a social media quest before her surgery to ask people to pray for her, and millions of Americans and people across the world — including Trump — paid close attention to that call.
Trump said that Sophia is “recovering and she’s walking very well” after the surgery, something that led him to call her a “symbol of hope.” The glowing little girl was even in the audience at the prayer breakfast; she stood up to rousing applause.
Sophia’s quest — and her recovery — apparently also inspired some of her doctors.
“One of her doctors even told her mom, ‘This little girl has God on her side,'” Trump said, before turning his attention directly to Sophia. “You may only be 9 years old, but you are already a hero to all of us in this room and all over the world.”
As Faithwire previously reported, Sophia’s family has been thanking God for her recovery since her surgery was successful late last month, thanking people around the world for their heartfelt prayers.
Sophia was apparently pretty excited about the prayer breakfast, too, with her dad posting on Facebook earlier this week that she said something pretty adorable to an Uber driver.
“I’m going to be talking about God and eating bacon,” she said. “The only thing better is talking about God and eating PIZZA!”
Continued prayers to both Sophia and her family.
