A 70-year-old Nashville woman was mugged as she returned home from a Bible study, sparking outrage from the local community.

The shocking incident was caught on surveillance cameras near the Lebanon Road Church of Christ last Tuesday, according to according to WREG-TV. Police said that a male suspect could be seen driving a silver pickup truck toward the woman before luring her toward his window “with a question about nearby shelters.”
The man, who was later identified as 48-year-old Gilbert D. Ostring Jr., then proceeded to grab the woman’s purse before fleeing, causing the elderly woman to fall face-first onto the concrete. The victim, who has remained nameless, reportedly broke several bones in her right hand and suffered facial injuries as a result of the brutal attack.
“This is something that should never happen, much less to a female senior citizen leaving a church Bible study,” the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said in a statement, as reported by Fox News. The suspect has still yet to be apprehended, despite being a known criminal who was previously convicted of “theft, forgery, identity theft, fraudulent use of credit cards and reckless aggravated assault.”
Police noted that the suspect currently has an outstanding arrest warrant held against him for robbery.
According to WREG, Ostring was released from prison last June. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
