An unlikely hero saved two elderly women who were attacked on Mother’s Day in New York City.
Surveillance video taken in Brooklyn’s Brownsville neighborhood shows the harrowing moment when a suspect sucker-punched the two woman – both in their 70s — as they walked gingerly in the opposite direction.

As one of the women walked while using the cane, and the other was pushing a shopping cart, the man, who had been talking to himself, knocks both of them to the ground.
A good Samaritan then sprang into action, tackling the suspect and holding him down until police arrived. They were both dazed after the attack, and one of the women was bleeding badly from her head.

Witnesses were so impressed with the man’s actions that they shook his hand after the incident occurred.
“He’s a hero,” one witness told WABC.
Another witness, Karla Johnson, said the good Samaritan stayed to make sure the women were OK after the attack.
“Thank God that he was here,” Johnson told WABC.
The women were treated for their injuries at a local hospital, while the suspect, 45-year-old Andre Flores, was arrested and charged with two counts of assault.
The good Samaritan was not identified, but witnesses told WABC that he was homeless.
