With all the negative news of the week, an 8-year-old boy showed the country that not all hope is lost for the future.
The youngster was recently spotted in a heartwarming video helping an elderly woman with a walker climb up a flight of stairs.
The tender act of kindness happened in Milledgeville, Georgia, earlier this week, according to WSB-TV.
The boy, Maurice Adams Jr., didn’t realize he was being filmed as he led the woman up the stairs. The video shows him gently guiding her every step of the way, first with her walker, and then with her feet.
The whole time, Maurice kept his hand on the woman’s back to show his support throughout the task.
Once they got to the top, the woman gave Maurice a hug and a pat on the back, and the boy walked back down the stairs, skipping the last steps as he leapt to the sidewalk.
Georgia resident Riley Duncan posted the video to a Jones County community group on Facebook, writing, “Thank God for our youth.”
Duncan told local news media that he saw Maurice stop traffic, hop out of his car and help the woman, adding that he thought the boy’s random act of kindness deserved to be shared.
“It made me feel so good inside. Once I saw that, I knew I had to reward him with something, because you don’t see that too commonly these days because people don’t believe in helping nobody,” Duncan told WMAZ-TV.
Maurice had been in the car with his mother and sister after leaving a high school graduation when he saw the woman crossing a busy road by herself, his mother, Contricia Hill, told WSB-TV.
“He asked, ‘Can I go out there and help her up the steps?'” Hill said.
Hill said that seeing her son’s act of compassion go viral on the internet made her proud.
“It’s touching. It’s very touching,” she said. “[It just shows] respect and raising your kids right goes a long way.”
The woman whom Maurice helped had a message for him when the pair parted ways, his mother said.
“She told him that he’s special,” Hill said.
