Former NFL star quarterback Tim Tebow has sought to set the record straight over an image that shows him kneeling on the field, supposedly during the national anthem. Many have suggested that he was protesting the issue of abortion and chose to use national anthem as a vehicle for his boycott, as has been the case with football players in recent months. Tebow, however, has assured fans that his kneeling was solely to “thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and also put things into perspective” and that he “never did anything during a national anthem but stand and support my country.”
President Trump has become so frustrated with players kneeling during the national anthem that he lobbied the NFL to implement rules banning players from engaging in the controversial act. They listened. Last month, the NFL announced that players would be fined if they chose to kneel during the anthem. The National Football League will now require all players to “stand and show respect for the flag,” according to CNBC.
Players who refuse to stand for the anthem “may stay in the locker room or in a similar location off the field until after the Anthem has been performed,” the league’s commissioner, Roger Goodell added after announcing the new rules.
As for Tebow, he told USA Today that it was “a little bit sad” that people “try to create something that had zero truth.”

“It was just something I did with a personal relationship with my God,” he added. “I think when people believe in something and they stand for that, I don’t knock them for that,” Tebow continued. “Even if I agree with some or disagree with some, I appreciate it when people have convictions and they stand for that.”
Tebow said he is familiar with players on both sides of the debate, but that the more important thing is to “know their heart and where they’re coming from and where the conviction stands in their heart and what they really want to share.”
Tim’s kneeling became so iconic, it was affectionately known as “Tebowing.”
