This week Texas Gov. Greg Abbott from, and Dan Fisher, who is running for governor in Oklahoma, promised a dying teen that they would fulfill his last wish.
The wish? To abolish abortion in Texas.
Earlier this month, Jeremiah Thomas, a 16-year-old Texan dying of an aggressive bone cancer, spoke with Gov. Abbott as part of his “legacy wish.” Instead of taking a trip to Disney World or meeting a famous celebrity, Jeremiah’s legacy wish was to tackle an issue very close to his heart: the killing of the unborn.

Abbott called Jeremiah on Monday and pledged to fulfill the teen’s wish. The governor told Jeremiah that he would continue to work to abolish abortion in Texas. During their conversation, Jeremiah shared his heart with Abbott, including his story about how he came to be a Christian.
Jeremiah also explained why he has such a heart for the unborn, and urged the governor to continue to fight boldly against abortion. He stated that abortion should be treated as murder and should be penalized by law in Texas.
The teen told the story of how he would go to local abortion clinics and preach to those entering, hoping to share the love of God with them and their unborn children.
Jeremiah offered words of encouragement for Abbott, thanking him for standing up for the life of the unborn in a country that embraces abortion.
In the filmed conversation, Gov. Abbott vows to make Jeremiah’s wish part of the Republican party platform in the next legislative session, which brings an immediate smile to Jeremiah’s face.
Afterwards, Jeremiah said that the governor was “compassionate and receptive” to everything he had to say.
Gov. Abbott’s wife, Cecilia, also reached out to Jeremiah, through Facebook, to tell him she was praying for him and sending “hugs” his way.

“They both demonstrated genuine Christian love and concern for the plight of our son,” the teen’s father, Rusty Thomas, wrote on Facebook.

Thomas’s father has had a large influence on his son’s pro-life views, as he himself runs a large Christian organization that works to end abortion in the United States.
Rusty Thomas is the director of Operation Save America, which, according to its website, “takes up the cause of preborn children in the name of Jesus Christ.” They also only “employ only biblical principles” and use the Bible as their foundation for fighting for the unborn.
Jeremiah Thomas also met with Dan Fisher in person to talk about his gubernatorial run in Ohio and his plans to defend the unborn.
Thomas told Fisher that he wanted to “use this wish wisely, use it according to God’s plan and really make a difference.”
