As news of a deadly shooting in a Maryland newsroom broke, one NBC News anchor turned to faith, pleading with God to help those involved in the heartbreaking incident.
The attack unfolded Thursday at the Capital Gazette Newspaper office in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Megyn Kelly, host of the third hour of NBC’s “Today” show, responded to the horrific news by turning to prayer:
Please, God. Help them. https://t.co/O7xfZhsEyg

Kelly’s tweet was in response to a post from Gazette reporter Phil Davis, who recounted some of his “terrifying” experience on Twitter. Davis said the unnamed attacker “shot through the glass door” of the newsroom and proceeded to “open fire on multiple employees.”
A single shooter shot multiple people at my office, some of whom are dead.

Gunman shot through the glass door to the office and opened fire on multiple employees. Can't say much more and don't want to declare anyone dead, but it's bad.

Ok, I was not tweeting from under my desk. I was already safe when I started tweeting

In an interview after he was safe, Davis said it felt “like a war zone” inside the small newsroom, noting his experience would be “hard to describe for a while,” according to The Baltimore Sun.
“I’m a police reporter. I write about this stuff — not necessarily to this extent, but shootings and death — all the time,” he explained. “But as much as I’m going to try to articulate how traumatizing it is to be hiding under your desk, you don’t know until you’re there and you feel helpless.”
County Executive Steve Schuh: "I want to commend the public safety professionals who were very quick to the scene here, within about 60 seconds." https://t.co/LkWlbonF6U pic.twitter.com/VU0WThaOVj

County Executive Steve Schuh said the attack has resulted in “several” fatalities and injuries, though he stopped short of offering an exact number. According to Anne Arundel Police Lt. Ryan Frashure, a suspect is in custody and is “still being interviewed” by law enforcement officers.
