It’s been a little more than five weeks since U.S. Olympic skier Bode Miller and his wife, Morgan, a professional beach volleyball player, tragically lost their 19-month-old daughter in a drowning accident at their neighbor’s home.
“It’s been 37 days since I’ve held my baby girl,” little Emeline’s mother wrote in a heartrending Instagram post published Tuesday.
Morgan Beck Miller used the post not only to commemorate her young daughter’s short life, but also to console another mother whose son drowned the same day Emeline died.
“My heart is with you [Nicole Hughes] as we walk this journey together. And thank you [Scary Mommy] for helping us spread awareness,” she wrote, noting drowning is the number one cause of death in children between the ages of one and four.
She continued:
“We talk about vaccinations, car seats, organic foods, screen time, etc at length…but not the number one risk your childrens’ lives face…a silent killer. It takes SECONDS. Please share and help us spread awareness. It’s the first step to preventing these types of tragedies.”
In a post of his own immediately following Emeline’s untimely death, Bode Miller wrote, “Never in a million years did we think we would experience a pain like this. Her love, her light, her spirit will never be forgotten.”
At the time of Emeline’s drowning, paramedics rushed to the house and performed CPR on her before taking her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The Millers are also parents of a 3-year-old son and are expecting a third child in October. Bode Miller also has two children from a previous marriage, a 5-year-old son and a 10-year-old daughter.
Please keep this family in your prayers as they continue to grieve for their precious daughter while preparing to welcome a new blessing into the world.
