A Florida police officer has been captured on video helping a homeless man get an essential bit of practical assistance – shaving his beard.

Officer Tony Carlson stopped to help the man after seeing him struggling to use an electric razor outside a gas station. The man, known simply as “Phil,” was reportedly promised a job at a nearby McDonalds on one condition – that he be clean shaven.
“He seemed excited about [the job]…if he’s wanting to help himself, I need to help him out the best I can,” Officer Carlson said in a video posted to the police department’s Facebook page.
“I wish I could’ve done more … Hopefully, from this, Phil will get a job.”
Tallahassee Police Department posted the video to their Facebook page on Sunday evening, and it has since gone viral. You can hear “Housefire’s” worship song, “The Way,” playing in the car as the officer makes Phil look a bit sharper!

The woman who took the video said she was “proud to live in a community where our deputies and officers are such wonderful people,” according to Fox News. “Good job Tallahassee Police Department!!!” she added.
“If somebody else sees this when they can help somebody out, hopefully they’ll think of this,” Carlson concluded.
As it turns out, officer Carlson’s wonderful act of public service paid off!
“He told me he had talked to the manager at McDonald’s and he was set to get a job – but he still needed to get his ID and social security card,” Officer Carlson posted in a Facebook update yesterday.
“I then told Phil I had good news about that and told him I had been contacted by Senator Marco Rubio’s office here in town,” he said. Carlson noted that the Senator’s office had offered to help Phil get the paperwork together for his new job.

“They stated they had also seen the story and wanted to help Phil get his ID and Social Security card,” Carlson continued. “I told Phil when I got to work on Thursday I would print out the paperwork they emailed to me and bring it by for Phil to fill out. They also said Phil could come by their office and they would help him with the process. Phil was super excited and assured me he would be ready for Thursday. Fingers crossed and hopefully we will have another update maybe on Friday.”
What an inspirational guy! We wish Phil all the best in his new job.
