The 18-year-old woman from Brooklyn who left a dead fetus in the lavatory toilet of an American Airlines plane at LaGuardia Airport in New York was traveling home from Jamaica, where officials believe she may have received a “botched abortion.”
The woman, whose name has not been released, told police officers she was on vacation and had no idea she was pregnant when she started experiencing pain, according to the New York Post. Sources familiar with the situation said the Brooklyn resident was treated at a clinic in Jamaica before catching a flight back into the United States.
She was on a 90-minute American Airlines flight from Charlotte, North Carolina, to LaGuardia Airport when she started experiencing intense pain again. While the rest of the passengers in the cabin were deplaning, she and her twin sister rushed to the lavatory, telling flight attendants she had an “emergency.”

A flight attendant told law enforcement officers the young traveler looked sick when she came out of the bathroom with her sister. Soon thereafter, a cleaning crew found the fetus wrapped in toilet paper in the airliner’s restroom.
On Tuesday afternoon, the 18-year-old woman was admitted to Brooklyn’s Kings County Hospital, where doctors have reportedly determined she suffered a failed abortion attempt.
“She is a good girl,” the woman’s grandmother told the Post. “She panicked. Thank God her sister was there to help her.”
The fetus was first discovered Tuesday around 7:30 a.m. aboard an out-of-service Airbus A321. American Airlines said in a statement they are fully cooperating with investigators to determine what exactly happened.
