A 17-year-old girl is recovering after being shot while she was praying at home.
Now, as she looks at the bullet hole in her bedroom wall, Kimberly Mendoza feels grateful, because she knows God is “taking care of me,” she told KTRK-TV.
“I feel great because I know that God is still great and he’s taking care of me,” Mendoza said. “I know my faith, everybody can laugh at me. Everybody can say, ‘You’re a Christian, you’re so weird,’ something like that. But I feel good because God is working for me and I love God and I know if I die, I’m good because I can go to heaven with him.”
When the shot first burst through her room, the teenager said she was confused. Mendoza didn’t realize what had happened, so she got up from her dark room and ran to her parents, who immediately called 911.
Some, Mendoza said, have questioned how God could allow such a thing to happen. But she sees it differently. The Texas teen said God isn’t to blame for the gunshot, which grazed her arm.

“He takes care of me always, and I know he’s chosen me for something great,” she said.
Police believe the bullet came from a nearby apartment complex, though no arrests have been made. They said if Mendoza wasn’t kneeling in prayer, the situation could have been much worse.
