Pop singer Avril Lavigne, who made a comeback earlier this year when she released the chart-topping single “Head Above Water,” teased her performance this week on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” with a Scripture passage.
The 34-year-old entertainer referenced Philippians 4:13 in a tweet posted one day before she sang “Head Above Water” on the season finale of “Dancing with the Stars” Monday night.

Lavigne performed the song for supermodel Alexis Ren and professional dancer Alan Bernsten’s freestyle dance before the season’s winners were announced.
Lavigne released “Head Above Water” after several years away from the spotlight following her diagnosis with Lyme disease. The song is the first single from her forthcoming studio album of the same name. It will be the singer’s sixth album and her first in six years.
The “Complicated” singer said in September, when the single debuted, that it’s important for her to use her celebrity platform “to bring awareness to the severity of Lyme disease.”

In an interview with Billboard, Lavigne said she’s not sure when she might have been bitten by a tick.
“I had accepted that I was dying,” she said. “And I felt in that moment like I was underwater and drowning, and I was trying to come up to gasp for air. And literally under my breath, I was like, ‘God, help me keep my head above the water.’”
When the song released, “Head Above Water” shot instantly to the top of Christian music charts. Right now, the pop anthem is No. 8 on Billboard ’s Hot Christian Songs list.
