An Oklahoma family is thanking God after a fire decimated their family vehicle and even threatened to spread to into their home. But while their only form of transportation was reduced to a pile of smoldering ashes, one beautiful item was plucked from the devastation — a prized Bible.

While officials are still trying to determine what caused the enormous inferno, the owner of the truck, Steven Gaut, believes that the blaze was ignited when a passerby threw a cigarette in the back.
“I felt like crying honestly and it’s hard for a grown man to cry,” Gaut said after seeing his vehicle engulfed in flames.
Now, he noted to KJRH-TV, there will be a struggle to provide Christmas presents for his five children.
“All the money that’s going to be going to Christmas is now going to have to go – I’m trying to divide it up to where I can get something,” he explained.

But, amid the ashes, there was hope.
“The first thing I asked for was to see if my Bible was OK,” Gaut said.
Sprinting out to the car wreck, he spotted the holy text on the ground, and recalled that he “had to pry it up from the case.” Staggeringly, the Bible was in immaculate condition. Gaut, who has owned the precious book since he was 13, said he was absolutely overwhelmed by God’s goodness to him through this small but significant discovery.

“God has made it to my eyes that I should be grateful for being alive,” he said.

Incredibly, Steven captured video of the entire incident, which he shared to Facebook:

“The non fire proof case saved the Bible….” he captioned the video.

A donation page has been set up on Facebook to help the family with unexpected expenses caused by the fire.
“I’m very grateful no one was hurt and thank God for saving our lives,” Gaut noted on the page. So far, just over $1,500 has been raised.
