Two of the most iconic vocalists of our generation teamed up last night to belt out an absolutely beautiful rendition of the Christmas classic, “O Holy Night.” Though competing as coaches on the season finale of “The Voice,” recording artists Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson came together to produce an utterly breathtaking performance.
With their complementary vocals, stunning harmonies and dynamic range, the two phenomenal singers certainly did the age-old classic justice, wrapping up season 15 with a festive send off.
WHO WROTE O HOLY NIGHT?
O Holy Night was written by French composer Adolphe Adam in 1847, before being adapted into its modern form by American musician John Sullivan Dwight. It has been covered by numerous artists, including Nat King Cole, Mariah Carey, Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli.
The poetic lyrics reflect the miracle birth of Jesus Christ:
-
O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
-
It is the night of our dear Saviour’s birth.
-
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
-
Till He appear’d and the soul felt its worth.
-
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,
-
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born;
O night divine, O night, O night Divine.
-
Truly He taught us to love one another;
-
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
-
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother;
-
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
-
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
-
Let all within us praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever,
His power and glory evermore proclaim.
His power and glory evermore proclaim.
