He is certainly the man of the moment, and at just 19 years of age, you’d forgive him for letting the praise get to his head a little bit. But Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence continues to be as calm and measured off the field as he is when he’s throwing 60-yard bombs into the touchdown zone. Incredibly, following the Tigers’ massive 44-16 win over Alabama in the National Championship Game Monday, Lawrence took to Instagram with some beautiful words of faith and gratitude.
“Special,” he began. “This is the word that continuously comes to mind when I think about this team.”
Lawrence continued: “This place, this school, this season, this team, and this time is special. Words can’t express the gratitude and appreciation I have for everyone involved and all who supported. To the seniors and guys who won’t be coming back next season, you all are amazing, and thank you for all you’ve done for myself and for Clemson. (Also shoutout to the o-line and Chase Brice, cause they don’t get enough credit).”
But far from boasting in his own, clearly phenomenal abilities, Lawrence chose to point to his Lord as the reason for his staggering successes. “It’s because of GOD’S grace this is all possible,” he declared. “The amazing thing is, the best is still yet to come. Keep your dreams bigger than your memories, cause we’re not done yet.”

What else has Lawrence said about his faith?
A committed Christian, Lawrence often uses social media to post about his faith. In July of last year, he uploaded images of himself attending a ministry conference. “Most impactful week of my life,” he wrote. “Amazed at God’s grace. Blessed to meet some amazing people and start this Journey of bringing some of the kingdom down here to Earth. Let that light shine!”
At a post-game presser last year, Lawrence declared that while football was “important” to him, his relationship with God was the absolute priority.
“Football is important to me, but it’s not the biggest thing in my life,” he said. “My faith is.”
“I just know that no matter how big the situation is, it’s not going to define me.”
Lawrence added that he continues to place his “identity in what Christ says” and “who He thinks I am and who I know that He says I am.”
