After a roaring opening weekend for the hotly anticipated movie, “Unplanned,” many are hopeful that this powerful true story of a former Planned Parenthood worker could spark something of a pro-life revolution against the sordid practice of abortion.
“Unplanned” chronicles the eye-opening experiences of former Planned Parenthood clinic director Abby Johnson, who is now one of the most prominent pro-life campaigners in America. And by all accounts, the rousing story has already captured the imagination of countless thousands across the country. “Unplanned” earned $6.1 million at 1,049 venues, more than doubling market expectations, which projected the film would earn roughly $3 million this weekend.
Hawaii-based pro-life advocate and film producer, Jason Scott Jones, even went as far as to suggest that this immensely impactful movie “has the power to end abortion” for good.
Modern-day abolition movement
In the later 1800s, author Harriet Beecher Stowe penned an anti-slavery novel that would spark a global movement for the eradication of legal slavery. Becoming an international bestseller only topped by the Bible itself, “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” laid the groundwork for the pioneering anti-slavery campaigns waged by abolitionist giants such as Abraham Lincoln and William Wilberforce.
“When Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote the novel ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin,’ could she have imagined the impact — that slavery would die less than 15 years later?” Jones asks in his latest video.
“When I watched a screening of the new movie ‘Unplanned,’ I was filled with hope and conviction,” he shares. “I thought, ‘this film has the power to end abortion.'”
The president of “Movie to Movement,” Jones has spent years producing pro-life movies, including 2006 title, “Bella,” which earned the “People’s Choice Award” at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival. He notes that “Unplanned” was given an “R” rating, meaning that “a 15-year-old girl can get an abortion without her parents’ knowledge, but she can’t go in to see unplanned without their consent.”
While Jones believes that this movie can indeed be “the Uncle Tom’s Cabin of the abortion industry,” he stresses that “it is up to us, the modern pro-life movement, to ensure its success.”
You can make a real difference by seeing this movie
No movement can gain momentum on its own. Clearly, this movie is having an incredible impact on all who have seen it and is opening up hearts and minds to the horrific reality of abortion and the modern war to end this silent holocaust.
With interest firmly piqued, the pro-life community must capitalize on the widespread attention and relentlessly promote this powerful film.
“Today, the pro-life movement is the largest, most diverse social and political movement in history,” Jones explains. “Our movement unites people you would you would never expect to converge — but we do converge, on the protection of the most vulnerable member of the human family: the child in the womb.”
“We are millions strong, and this is our Uncle Tom’s Cabin moment,” he declares.
