On Sunday, Christian artists from all over the country gathered in Nashville for the KLOVE Fan Awards, but there was one attendee who was there to see one artist in particular.
After winning top awards, Lauren Daigle, known for her widely appealing worship music, asked viewers to pray for her grandfather, who was in attendance.
“I’ll try not to cry but I want to honor my grandfather,” Daigle said during her acceptance speech. “He’s 86 years old and he has knees that are giving him a hard time and shoulders and a back that, it all kinda needs to be replaced.”
“So if ya can be praying for someone, that’s the man,” she declared.
“He drove nine hours to be here,” she added.
Daigle won two of the most impressive awards at the KLOVE Fan Awards taking home, “Artist of the Year” and “Female Artist of the Year.”
“I just want to give all glory to [God]. Thank you for everybody who voted. I appreciate you guys. We’ll see you soon!”
Daigle’s impressive year
Daigle has had an impressive year, appearing on a variety of talk shows while her songs skyrocketed on the Billboard charts.
She’s performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live, “Dancing With The Stars,” “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
One of her singles, “You Say,” reached spot 34 on Billboards top 40 in February, hitting an all-time record for the Daigle. Her entire album “Look Up Child debuted at third last September, beating out artists like Drake, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj.
Most recently the artist performed “You Say” at the Billboard awards, her song becoming the most Shazammed song of the night.
Billboard announced that Daigle’s “Christian pop track, which earlier this year crossed over to pop and adult pop radio after a monumental 17-week run atop Billboard’s Christian Airplay chart,” triggered more Shazam tags “than any other performance at the BBMAs.”
