A baby who was smaller than a can of coke at birth has defied the odds to celebrate her first birthday. Isabella weighed just 12oz when she was born at was born prematurely at 24 weeks last year, making her the United Kingdom’s tiniest baby born within the last two decades.
After giving birth, mom Kym Brown was told by doctors that it was highly unlikely her little girl would survive for very long. However, after a couple of operations, and an extensive period of recovery, Isabella went home at six months of age.
Six months on, and the family were throwing a first birthday party for their warrior daughter, which dad Ryan called a “celebration of survival.”
“Our beautiful little miracle turned one, a huge milestone for such a little fighter. ‘I am so, so proud of her, the most amazing person I know. Her smile keeps me going every single day,” Kym said.
Then, as if there wasn’t enough to celebrate already, Ryan and Kym decided to get engaged on their beautiful daughter’s first birthday!
“Obviously it’s not just a birthday celebration. It’s a celebration of survival really,” Ryan said, according to the Metro. “For a long time we did not think she would get to this point. We are now finally a family. There’s only one thing left to make us a real family.”
Then, the proud dad got down on one knee, with Kym exclaiming “yes!” with a confident nod, while cradling her miracle child.
“After all we have been through this is the happiest day of my life,” Brown said.
God bless this family — may they have a long life ahead of joy and happiness with their brave little girl.
