The discussion surrounding the morality of abortion has been going on for decades. But one crucial assertion made by pro-abortion advocates and abortionists alike is that the life they are taking is not a “baby” but merely a “fetus.”
Of course, as most pro-lifers would point out, this is nothing more than a vain attempt at depersonalizing the abortion victim in a bid to keep this horrific murder racket above the law. “Fetus” is Latin for “offspring” so while the term is meant to distance abortion from murder, it doesn’t really achieve the goal.
However, in a recent BBC documentary, infamous abortionist Dr. Leroy Carhart briefly let the mask slip. Carhart, who is known for mounting a legal challenge against a ban on partial-birth abortion, was addressing the issue of late-term abortion when he made the sickening admission.
“The baby has no input in this, as far as I’m concerned,” Carhart said of carrying out terminations. Just prior to that remark, he had refused to acknowledge that there should be a limit to late-term abortions.
The reporter immediately picked up on the terminology. “It’s interesting that you use the word baby, because a lot of abortionists won’t use that,” she said, “they’ll use the word “fetus” because they don’t want to acknowledge that it’s a life.”
“I think that it is a baby, and I use [the term] with the patient,” Carhart replied, without hesitation.
“So, you don’t have a problem with killing a baby?” the reporter pressed.
“I have no problem if it’s in the mother’s uterus,” the abortionist replied.
Late-term abortion due to poor “financial health”
In order to sign off on an abortion, Dr. Carhart must prove that certain criteria have been met in accordance with Maryland state law — under the guidelines, a late-gestation abortion can only be obtained if the child might no survive or if the woman’s health is at risk.
But when Carhart was affronted with questions about what these “health reasons” actually entail, he made another shocking comment.
“It goes into financial health, social health.. there’s a long list,” the abortionist explained, noting that if the woman tells him that having a baby would destroy her life, he’ll go ahead and kill it.
So, what if the woman is simply stressed about her pregnancy? Would an abortion be conducted in that instance?
“It has to get more to the point of depression, and if it fit within my confidence of what we could do safely… I would do that,” Carhart explained.
“Right up until, when? 38, 39 weeks?” quizzed the reporter.
“I don’t know..” Carhart replied, “I’m not going to say.”
“To the fetus, it makes no difference if it’s born or not born,” he concluded, rendering the BBC journalist absolutely speechless.
Later, Carhart explained how he would first administer a lethal injection to the baby, before pulling it limb from limb. “These are the forceps I use to grab the fetus, crush it, and pull it out,” he said, pointing lazily to a draw of stainless steel implements.
When the reporter asked if it was true that the baby’s skull is crushed during the procedure, the doctor assured her it wasn’t so bad, because the baby had already been killed at this stage. “You’ve got to remember that the baby has been dead for 48 hours,” he said. “It’s not like we’re crushing a living skull.”
In an attempt to defend the morality of his sordid exploits, Carhart lashed out at pro-life politicians, declaring that their “entire goal is to take away a woman’s right to determine her pregnancy level and therefore her ability to be employed, to be successful and to become a functioning part of society.”
“They want the woman to stay home, stay barefoot and stay pregnant,” he added.
In response to that accusation, the staunchly pro-life Governor of Mississippi, Phil Bryant, said that it was a more simple question of recognizing the sanctity of life — that every person is of value and worth.
“I’m not going to preach about morality — people have to make that decision with their faith and with their God,” the governor explained. “We’re just simply saying that we think it’s wrong to take the life of an innocent child in the womb.”
