Kanye West’s latest “Sunday Service,” event has been held at a real church building as opposed to an outdoor location.
The rap star’s gathering, which often features a combination of both gospel music and a short talk, is usually held in an open-air capacity. However, this time, Kanye decided to have his worship service take up residence in a church building — the California Worship Center, to be precise.
The flamboyant rapper cut rather more modest figure this time around, choosing to stay seated behind a set of keys for most of the three-hour-long worship party and allowing a series of vocalists to take the lead.
Singer Tori Kelly was one of those to make an appearance, unleashing some truly extraordinary vocals while being amply backed up by a wonderfully soulful gospel choir.
Kelly has spoken at length about her belief in Jesus. “My faith is everything to me,” she told YouVersion in an interview back in 2017, noting that she “spends time in the Word every single day.”
Last month, Pastor Rich Wilkerson shared a powerful message at Kanye’s spiritual gathering, which was held just outside LA.
“This is not a concert, this is not a performance, but rather this is an old-fashioned worship service of Jesus Christ,” Wilkerson began, the crowd responding with a series of hearty ‘Amen’s.’
“Today if you’re feeling something, understand, it’s not a vibe, and I like the vibe. It’s not an energy, and I like the energy. But what you are sensing is the tangible presence of a living God.”
Justin Bieber’s longtime agent, Scooter Braun, was also in attendance at the service, causing some to anticipate future performance from the pop megastar himself. Last week, Bieber shared Wilkerson’s preaching message and urged his followers to “put trust in Jesus.”
