After making a surprise appearance at Kanye West’s “Sunday Service” at the weekend, acclaimed singer Tori Kelly dropped by the Late Show with Stephen Colbert to perform a few songs with world-renowned pianist, Jon Batiste.
At one stage in the set, Kelly meandered through a soulful rendition of John Newton’s classic hymn, “Amazing Grace.”
With Batiste’s skillful playing to accompany, Kelly showcased her absolutely breathtaking vocals and conveyed true, heart-felt meaning with every word.
The hugely successful pop singer has spoken openly about her faith in recent years, insisting that it continues to be a central anchor-point in her life and career.
“My faith is everything to me,” she told YouVersion. “I did grow up in the church but I think maybe like some other people who grow up in the church you kind of get to a point where your faith really becomes your own and it’s not about what your parents say or what they believe” she said. “But it’s really like, ‘Oh no, this is real to me. I have experienced the presence of God and I know that this is my own faith.’”
Speaking about the importance of daily Bible reading, Tori said that you “have to be intentional about just sitting down with God.”
“I mean it is life to me, I don’t really know how else to explain it other than it’s so essential, crucial,” she concluded.
