Fox News chief national correspondent, Ed Henry, has made an emotional return after successfully donating a portion of his kidney to his sister.
Appearing live on Fox & Friends in front of an audience of first responders, Henry held back tears as he described the selfless act.
“I did that for more sister who I love,” he said. “That’s easy.. I think.” Addressing the first responders, who were there as part of a commemoration of 9/11, Henry added: “What you do every single day, helping people that you may not even know. I mean the number of people on 9/11 that rushed into those buildings.. they didn’t even know the people they wanted to save.”
“I wanted to save one person,” he continued, “and I’ve been gratified by the number of people who’ve contacted me. There’s a pile of letters in my office.”
Henry said that he hoped that his organ donation “raised a bit of awareness” of the need for more donors to come forward.
“I wanted to save one, and I hope we end up saving a lot more people,” he added.
Despite taking a few months off to recover, and spending some quality time with his family, Ed’s story has continued to gain huge attention. Now, he says, the focus should be on his sister as she recovers.
“It was really about Colleen. She’s had more bumps than me. … Receiving the donation, it takes more time, it’s harder,” he noted, adding that he hopes Colleen will come into the studio for an interview as soon as possible.
As Faithwire previously reported, Henry made the emotional announcement that he would be donating 30% of his liver to his sister, who has been battling with degenerative liver disease.
Henry first shared the news of his decision in a July column on the Fox News website. In it, he wrote he is “determined to do whatever I can to give my sister the greatest gift of all, which quite simply is life.”
“Colleen and I could each have our own healthy livers — from one liver — in just over a month,” he wrote. “It is nothing short of a medical marvel, and yet doctors in this great country called America perform these miracles pretty frequently.”
Well, it seems like this wonderful miracle has come to fruition!
Henry will now return co-hosting the weekend edition of “Fox & Friends” on Saturday and Sunday. Do keep him and Colleen in your prayers.
