Chris Tomlin, the guy known for writing and recording a great deal of the worship songs we sing in church on Sunday mornings, this week recorded his own rendition of one of Kanye West’s newest and most meme-worthy songs, “Closed on Sunday.”
Tomlin posted his version of the recently released song to his Twitter account Monday afternoon, chronicling his “moment of inspiration.”
Tomlin’s version of the ode to Chick-fil-A featured worship leader Pat Barrett.
For his part, West performed “Closed on Sunday” this week on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
The song was written by Victory Boyd, who spent several weeks with West’s team to come up with the lyrics for the tune.
“Everyday I had one goal, which was to make the day count and have something of value to contribute to the team and album,” Boyd wrote in an Instagram post. “I wrote 5 drafts of ‘Closed on Sunday.’ The 5th time I wrote it, I was so nervous about if the lyrics were strong enough that I automatically started writing my 6th rendition of this song.”
“I was busy already working on my next draft when I got word that I nailed it!” she continued. “My 5th draft of the lyrics to ‘Closed on Sunday’ aired tonight on television and it’s just the beginning.”
