Popular blogger and author Heidi St. John has spoken out about the allegations leveled against Christian comedian, John Crist.
Heidi St. John, author of “Becoming MomStrong,” posted some strong words for those defending Crist, who has admitted to “destructive and sinful” behavior towards various women and been accused of much worse.
“His career should be OVER,” St. John wrote in a Facebook post. “John doesn’t just have a sin issue. This is waaay beyond “I looked at porn” although that’s obviously wrong, too. His behavior is straight-up predatorial.”
The allegations, published in a lengthy report from Charisma News, included Crist using his fame in a bid to engage in sexual relations with various women, often plying them with alcohol to try and achieve his ends.
The author warned against a response that brushes over the seriousness of Crist’s actions, noting that, too often, Christians engage in a “‘we’re all a mess’ routine,” and fail to truly hold each other accountable for sinful behavior.
“Whatever happened to esteeming a life of holiness?” she asked.
St John also had some tough words for the women who put themselves in such inappropriate situations with the comedian.
“These women who went to Crist’s hotel room, drank water bottles full of vodka (which he offered while pouring himself Snapple bottles full of whiskey) etc. etc. have ZERO and I do mean ZERO discernment,” she said. “I was blinded by his ‘celebrity'” is a lame excuse for accepting said bottle of vodka and going roller-blading on Venice Beach with a clearly intoxicated virtual stranger (even if he was a celebrity!)”
At the end of last week, Netflix revealed that it would be placing Crist’s thanksgiving comedy special “on hold” after the allegations came to light.
Crist has not made any further comment after releasing a statement in response to the allegations.
In that statement, he said he had “sinned against God, against women and the people who I love the most.”
“I have violated my own Christian beliefs, convictions and values, and have hurt many people in the process,” he continued. “I am sorry for the hurt and pain I have caused these women and will continue to seek their forgiveness. I have also hurt the name of Jesus and have sought His forgiveness.”
Despite being a prolific social media user, Crist has not posted from any of his accounts for over a week.
