Two Texas students have been killed in a freak traffic accident outside their school. Shantey and Adryanna Hawkins died after their car was struck by a log truck on Hwy 125 in Linden, Texas, early Saturday morning.
The accident occurred when the girl’s dodge charger was “t-boned by an 18-wheeler” as it made a left turn outside the school, according to a report at KETK.
A statement issued by the school district revealed that the girls’ mother and driver of the vehicle, Gwen, sustained injuries in the accident and is currently being treated at a medical center in Texarkana.
“It is with great sadness we report that we lost two precious LK students today,” Linden-Kildare Consolidated Independent School District said in the statement, which was posted to Facebook.
“Shantey and Adryanna Hawkins were killed on Saturday when the car they were traveling in collided with a log truck just after 7:00am. The collision occurred on Hwy 125 in front of the high school.”
Adryanna was a freshman and Shantey was a sophomore at Linden-Kildare High School.
The district called the community to pray for the family at this gut-wrenching time.
“Our hearts are grieving for these students and their families. Please join us in keeping them at the forefront of our thoughts and prayers as we all attempt to cope with this sudden and tragic loss,” they wrote.
“As a community, we ask you to extend your love and support to the Hawkins Family. This tragedy impacts our community as a whole, including those at Linden-Kildare CISD who cared deeply for Shantey and Adryanna. Please continue to lift these families in your thoughts and prayers.”
Many responded to the Facebook post with messages of condolence and prayer.
“Lord, Please take care of this family and see them through. They surely need you,” one person wrote. “My prayers and condolences to the family and friends,” another added.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with medical bills. So far, it has raised just over $2,000. You can donate here.
“Sorry for your loss & may God wrap his arms around this family,” reads the sole comment on the page.
The crash is currently under police investigation.
Do lift up the affected families in your prayers as they come to terms with this excruciating loss.
