A generous plane passenger helped checked one item off the bucket list of an elderly traveler by offering up his ticket, giving her a first-class seat.
The incredible story was shared by a Virgin Atlantic flight attendance on Facebook last week and has since been shared widely across the world.
“Of the hundreds of flights I’ve operated, I’ve had the pleasure of looking after footballers, supermodels and some Hollywood movie stars, but let me tell you about my two favorite passengers EVER!” she wrote.
The flight attendant, Leah, went on to describe the situation involving passengers Jack and Violet.
“Jack and his family purchased seats In our upper class cabin for a flight home from New York, but when he got onboard, Jack went and found violet in economy and swapped seats with her,” Leah explained.
According to the New Zealand Herald, the pair had struck up a friendship after meeting at the airport. Violet, 88, always hoped she might one day experience the luxury of first-class.
Without hesitation, Jack made it a reality and offered her the chance, insisting that she would “get more” out of the luxurious seat and service. The kind-hearted young man “then sat on the row of seats directly next to the economy toilets and never made a peep or asked for anything the rest of the flight,” Leah explained. “No fuss, no attention, literally did it out of the kindness of his own heart, no one asked him too,” she added.
The employee recalled how Violet had worked as a nurse both in the United Kingdom and the United States, but would fly across the pond on occasion to see her daughter.
“She travels to New York to see her daughter, but hasn’t been able to for a while because of a knee replacement,” Leah explained. “Her dream has always been to sit at the front, and Jack made that come true.”
Leah’s Facebook post has since been liked over 7,000 times and shared over 2,000 times.
“Thank you Jack,” one person commented. “You have a heart of gold. The airline should give you a free ride next time for your act of kindness.”
“I hope this post reached her daughter. #BeLikeJack,” another added.
Leah confirmed that, due to Violet not owning a mobile phone or having access to an email account, photos of her enjoying the special in-flight experience will be sent to her home address.
Amazing reminder of how we should act this Christmas season. While you’re traveling across busy, often stressful, airports and highways, remember to #BeLikeJack, or better yet, love like Christ. Afterall, without our Savior, we wouldn’t have the Christmas season at all.
