Canadian pastor Tim Barnett turned to Facebook Tuesday to offer his own “translation” of a headline about a transgender male giving birth.
Barnett reworked a story from the Mirror with the headline: “Transgender man gives birth to non-binary partner’s baby with female sperm donor.”
“Proud dad Reuben Sharpe today tells how HE gave birth to a miracle baby in Britain’s most modern family,” wrote journalist Helen Whitehouse. “The 39-year-old transitioned to a man 12 years ago.”
“This headline pretty much sums up 2019,” wrote Barnett, pastor of Cedarview Community Church in Newmarket, Ontario.
The “transgender man,” he translated, is actually a “biological woman” who “identifies as a man.” Barnett explained “non-binary” this way: “Identity outside the gender binary: male and female. (In this case, Jay is a biological woman unable to provide sperm).”
Barnett said the “female” referenced in the headline is actually a “biological man” who “identifies as a woman.” The pastor also circled the word “miracle” in the subheading and added the following note: “Sperm are male reproductive cells.”
In an age when sexuality is in flux and identity is whatever you want it to be, Barnett’s post has gone a bit viral. One man, Clinton Wilcox, shared the preacher’s “translation,” writing, “Okay, this is pretty cathartic.”
