Just shy of the New Year, podcaster and actor Jameela Jamil quietly dropped conservative provocateur Candace Owens from her show after the 30-year-old commentator claimed “only women can give birth.”
The “Good Place” star rescinded her invitation after Owens posted the biologically true assertion to her Twitter account.
Jamil apparently sent a direct message to a woman named Gina, who presumably works for Owens, informing her of the cancellation.
“Gina, sorry,” she wrote. “We have a trans people working with us. I can’t have Candace on the podcast anymore. You are both free to say whatever you like about this publicly. I’m sure you will have an entertaining spin. But nothing is worth my friends and coworkers feeling safe.”
What else?
Jamil responded publicly herself Thursday. In her own tweet, she accused Owens of using her platform “to belittle an innocent young trans couple having a baby.” Owens’ initial comment was in response to a story in the Daily Mirror about a transgender man — a biological female — claiming to be the first male to give birth.
In a follow-up tweet, Jamil asserted Owens’ “obsession with other people’s genders” is a “sign you are unhappy in your own life, and need a target to point your fear and rage at.”
A Canadian pastor offered his own “translation” of the Mirror’s story, which he posted to his Facebook page. The headline, he noted, “pretty much sums up 2019.”
