Evangelist Franklin Graham has announced he will be attending this year’s “March for Life” event in Washington D.C.
Writing on Facebook, the preacher noted that he would be attending the massive pro-life event — slated for this Friday — because protecting the unborn is a “huge, important issue.”
“I’m going to do something on Friday that I’ve never done before—I’m going to march. I’m going to DC to walk in the March for Life,” Graham wrote, noting that he was going to “blend into the crowd” along with his daughter, Cissie Graham Lynch.
Franklin also issued an invitation to all those that want to see the lives of the unborn protected. “Why don’t you come join me?” he asked. “I would encourage anyone and everyone who cares about abortion to come, to walk, and to pray.”
“Let’s let the courts, Congress, the media, and the world know what we believe and how important the lives of these children are,” Franklin concluded. “Every life matters to God and should matter to us. The link below gives more details—see you there!”
According to the President of March for Life, Jeanne Mancini, this year’s theme is “Life Empowers: Pro-Life Is Pro-Woman.”
“Of course, this is the year where we celebrate the centennial anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which created a woman’s right to vote,” Mancini told The Daily Signal. “So it’s a great opportunity to go back and look at the suffragist, the early feminist, the early female leaders who recognize the inherent dignity of women and the inherent dignity of the unborn. We’re not at odds with each other and they had a really good understanding about that.”
Writing at Fox News ahead of this year’s march, Live Action President Lila Rose argued that “real feminism promotes and accepts all aspects of who a woman is, sees men as equal partners, and sees children as gifts.”
“My hope is that our demand will not be the right to take the lives of our preborn children,” she added. Instead, Rose envisions an American society that “defends the right to life of all human beings and celebrates the unique power of a woman to be a mother and a man to be a father.”
Included in the roster of high profile speakers is Jim Daly from Focus on the Family, Susan B. Anthony List’s Marjorie Dannenfelser and pastor David Platt from McLean Bible Church. Last year, conservative pundit and Daily Wire founder, Ben Shapiro, delivered an impassioned address at the gathering.
Several hundred thousand people are set to attend. You can find out more about this year’s March for Life by visiting the event website here.
