In 2019, Carla D’Addesi launched a pro-life fashion brand.
It wasn’t long after she and her daughters got the project off the ground that they landed their first brand ambassador: Abby Johnson, the former Planned Parenthood executive who became pro-life after watching an abortion via ultrasound.
D’Addesi spoke with Faithwire last year about the brand, COL 1972, which stands for “Culture of Life 1972,” the year before the U.S. Supreme Court passed its landmark decision granting nationwide legal cover for abortion.
The first wave of interest for COL 1972 came when the company launched a “1972” necklace, a response to jewelry worn by singer and actor Selena Gomez, who appeared on TV last spring donning a gold “1973” necklace created by designer Sophie Ratner to celebrate the high court’s ruling in Roe v. Wade.
Now, as the company continues to garner interest, D’Addesi is taking her pitch to Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where she spoke alongside Johnson.
On the panel, D’Addesi said she and her daughters felt compelled to start COL 1972 after realizing some 50 brands regularly donate to pro-abortion organizations.
“Our family takes it very seriously that we use our purchasing power to compound or magnify our family values, and very specifically, our for-life values,” she said.
D’Addesi went on to describe their work at COL 1972 as “winsome,” “flavorful,” and “attractive.”
One day after speaking during Liberty’s convocation service, D’Addesi — with the help of Johnson — put on a fashion show on the Christian college’s campus.
The fashion show was a three-hour event, according to D’Addesi, who told Faithwire there was “standing room only” during the fashion show.
