Levi Lusko, a megachurch pastor based in Montana, ended his Fourth of July weekend in the emergency room.
The Fresh Life Church pastor posted about the harrowing ordeal on Instagram Monday, writing, “The holiday ended in the ER after a malfunction sent a firework explosion straight into my eye. Scary.”
“I couldn’t see out of it at all right away and then it was like looking through milk the next day and now it is just blurry,” Lusko continued. “Bleeding inside of the eye was causing pressure that is subsiding slowly.”
Ophthalmologists told him they believe he will fully recover.
The hardest part for Lusko, he said, was being in the same hospital where he and his wife, Jennie, lost their daughter, Lenya Avery, their second-born daughter of five children. Writing about her death in 2012, Lusko’s wife said their daughter’s sudden passing seemed to be the result of “a severe asthma attack.”
“But God is faithful and He gave us strength again,” the pastor wrote.
Lusko posted an update Tuesday, writing, “I’ve bumped into a few door frames, but other than that, I’m adapting to it.”
Popular Christian figures posted thoughtful messages to the pastor.
“Praying, mate,” wrote author and preacher Christine Caine.
Christian singer Tauren Wells commented, “Praying for a full and speedy recovery!”
Greg Laurie, a megachurch pastor based in California, wrote, “YIKES! Praying for you, Levi.” While Kari Jobe, a well-known worship leader, added, “My eyes started watering just watching this. Oh man, praying for complete recovery.”
