An 83-year-old British woman delivered a biting commentary after being approached by television cameras and asked to comment on current restrictions in place to fight the spread of coronavirus.
“Millions are going to be unemployed. And you know who’s going to pay for it? All the young ones. Not me, because I’ll be dead,” the woman argued.
“I think it’s all ridiculous,” the unnamed woman began. “We should never have been in lockdown. All the people who were vulnerable should have been helped and kept safe. All the rest of us, I’m 83, I don’t give a sod.”
Frustrated and fed up with the lockdowns and draconian restrictions that have kept people fearful of one another and afraid to go outside for things like dining and shopping, her commentary is resonating with thousands of people online who are echoing and celebrating the sentiment.
“I look at it this way, I’ve not got all that many years left of me and I’m not going to be fastened in a house when the government have got it all wrong,” she argued. “We need, how can we get the country on its feet? Money-wise, where’s all the money? By the end of this year there’s going to be millions of people unemployed and you know who’s going to pay for it? All the young ones. Not me because I’m going to be dead.”
These comments come over 6 months after the first coronavirus related restrictions were put into place. Initially, government officials led by the science community told the public we needed “two weeks to flatten the curve” in order to avoid overwhelming hospitals with sick patients.
Clearly, we are well beyond that timeframe and government officials don’t appear to show any signs of letting up, which has many people – like the woman in this clip – extremely frustrated.
