Singer-songwriter Kid Rock is throwing his weight behind a campaign to raise money for small businesses, bars, and restaurants across America.
On Monday, the “All Summer Long” rocker donated $100,000 to Barstool Sports’ Barstool Fund, a financial relief program started by sports journalist Dave Portnoy.
“I only post this in hopes others as blessed as me may be moved to help out,” Kid Rock tweeted after announcing his hefty donation.
So far, Portnoy’s campaign has raised an astonishing $17 million.
“How do we expect these people to survive?” Portnoy said, explaining the motivation for the Barstool Fund. “How are restaurants going to survive? Nobody in the government seems to care. Or, at least, no one is acting like they care.”
“Hopefully,” he added, “we can save as many small businesses as humanly possible.”
In order to qualify for funding from the campaign, benefiting businesses must maintain an active payroll. The money then must be used to keep establishments operating during lockdowns and restrictions brought on by COVID-related mandates.
