U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry was spotted Wednesday sitting in a first-class seat on a commercial flight without wearing a mask, a direct violation of President Joe Biden’s executive mandate.
Kerry was not eating or drinking at the time, two of the few acceptable reasons to remove one’s mask, according to The Tennessee Star.
The politician was instead reading a book as his mask hang from one ear. He was traveling on American Airlines flight AA2129 from Boston to Washington, D.C.
American Airlines, which has kicked toddlers off flights for not wearing masks, said it was “looking into” the incident.

Kerry himself took to Twitter Wednesday evening to address the issue.
“Feels like there’s some St. Patrick’s Day ‘malarkey’ afoot on Twitter,” he wrote. “Let’s be clear: If I dropped my mask to one ear on a flight, it was momentary. I wear my mask because it saves lives and stops the spread. It’s what the science tells us to do.”
Last month, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an order requiring all airline passengers to “wear masks that cover both the mouth and nose when awaiting, boarding, traveling on, or disembarking public conveyances. People must also wear masks when entering or on the premises of a transportation hub in the United States.”
The person who took the photo has remained anonymous. However, the individual did release a statement to TheBlaze, saying, “I salute our very special presidential envoy for climate for not flying private, but instead flying first-class commercial with the rest of us common folk.”
“While he can’t bring himself to follow his own party’s mask restrictions, we should cut him some slack,” the photographer added. “Being an elite hypocrite is hard work.”
