In an Instagram world, teaching daughters the value of modesty can be quite challenging. Christian singer Matthew West has taken a unique approach to the issue with a “light-hearted” song “on an age-old struggle.”
West took to Facebook today to post the music video for his song “Modest is Hottest,” which West says is “my ridiculously silly way of reminding them (his daughters) that their appearance doesn’t define them.”
The video for Modest is Hottest begins with West’s two daughters on the couch, fixated on their cell phones. As it progresses, West is trying to convince his daughters that being modest is the coolest fashion style.
“Modest is hottest, the latest fashion trend,” the lyrics begin. “Is a little more Amish, a little less Kardashian.”
“All the parents be saying their prayers, that all their girls they be wearing more layers,” West sings as his horrified daughters look on, as the whole family is dressed in “a turtleneck and a sensible pair of slacks.”
“Moms and Dads around the world yeah, they’re on their knees. Lord make them more like Jesus, and less like Cardi-B,” he says, quick to add “no offense to Card-B.”
West has been known to create a comedic song from time to time, as he did with Jeremy Camp and Bart Millard for the 2017 K-LOVE Fan Awards and a bit featuring them as a boy band singing their hit “4 in the Fire.”
