Meghan McCain, the lone conservative panelist on ABC’s “The View,” condemned President Joe Biden Monday, arguing the 78-year-old politician is walking a “fine line” between his personal religious beliefs and his political stance on the issue of abortion.
“When it comes to the separation of church and state, the onus is on the government, not the church,” said McCain. “I don’t try and proselytize my spiritual journey on other people, but if you are a devout Catholic, as President Biden claims to be, abortion is a cardinal sin that can do deep spiritual harm to you.”

The 36-year-old commentator pointed out that, prior to his decision to run for president in 2019, Biden supported the Hyde Amendment, a ban on the use of taxpayer dollars to fund abortions.
The president has since flip-flopped on the issue.
Biden said on the campaign trail he “can no longer support an amendment” that makes access to abortion “dependent on someone’s ZIP code.”
McCain’s comments come less than a week after the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops voted to move forward with drafting a formal statement outlining the meaning of communion and giving instruction on whether politicians who support abortion access should be permitted to receive the sacrament.
The show co-host likened Biden’s position on abortion — his personal opposition to it but political support for it — to someone condemning murder for themselves but telling others if they “want to murder a little, it’s fine.”

“It doesn’t register with me,” McCain said. “I don’t get it. So it’s ultimately up to the Church, but he’s walking a very fine line her and, ultimately, all of these issues are literally life and death for Catholics, for devout Christians, and he’s going to have to ultimately talk to his creator when the time comes, as we all do, and reconcile his politics with his personal faith.”
McCain added she believes Biden “is doing grave spiritual harm to himself and harm to this country.”
