As the pandemic winds down, France is unveiling draconian vaccine requirements.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced Monday anyone who wants to go out to eat or enter a shopping mall must carry a COVID-19 pass indicating they’re vaccinated, showing a recent negative virus test, or proving they’ve recently recovered from the illness, according to the Associated Press.
Furthermore, the French leader ordered all health care workers to be fully vaccinated by Sept. 15 and urged French citizens to take the shots as soon as they can.
Macron’s mandates come as the so-called “Delta variant” of COVID-19 is causing the country’s infection rate to increase once again.

So far, some 40% of France’s population is vaccinated.
“The country is facing a strong resumption of the epidemic touching all our territory,” the president said, adding people will need to learn to “live with the virus.”
Macron also announced France will begin charging money for some COVID-19 infection tests, which had previously been free to anyone.
As far as the possibility of future lockdowns, Europe Minister Clement Beaune said Sunday full lockdowns are not feasible.
“We have to live with the virus,” he said. “Living with the virus means we don’t re-close everything.”
