The Cuban people, suffering under a decades long string of failed communist rule, bravely rose up and protested in recent weeks, drawing attention to their dire situation.

Media outlets blamed the unrest on a failed COVID response, and even Trump. U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez was more direct in blaming the United States for the dire situation facing Cuban citizens, saying “We also must name the U.S. contribution to Cuban suffering: our sixty-year-old embargo.”
But Marco Rubio, during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, took offense to that sentiment, placing the blame squarely on the communist regime.
Rubio, who is Cuban-American, explained why there “is no American embargo on the Cuban people.”
“Cuba is a failure because socialism doesn’t work,” Rubio explained to Hannity. “Marxism doesn’t work. Marxism is about power, nothing to do with prosperity. It’s about controlling people. A Marxist system wants to keep people poor, because poor people are easier to control.”
After explaining that it’s a tyranny that’s controlled by incompetent liars, Rubio laid out the true nature of the embargo that AOC blames for Cuba’s woes.
“There is no US embargo against the Cuban people,” Rubio said. “The only embargo is on the Cuban regime because they own everything.”
Rubio added that Trump’s policy with Cuba is so the United States isn’t directly financially supporting the communist regime. “What President Trump did, is very simply. If you’re a private citizen of Cuba you can open up a business and we can do trade with you. But we’re not going to do trade with military owned companies because all that money goes into their pocket.”
Rubio also criticized the Biden administration for not making the situation in Cuba a priority, while also criticizing the segment of the Democratic party that praises Cuba’s communism.
Rubio specifically called out the Black Lives Matter organization for offering support to Cuba’s regime and said his office is standing by to help anyone from the Black Lives Matter foundation immigrate to Cuba if they believe it’s so great.
